Five Steps to Creating Engaging Web Content

How Can Engaging Content Help My Business?

If your website isn’t reader friendly, most often, you will lose that visitor, and you, in turn, lose a potential customer or donor.  Presenting reader friendly web content increases the chance you keep the reader on your site so they can become interested in your product or cause. To accomplish this task, just follow the five steps below.  By doing so, you will place your website in a strategic position for success.

Step 1- Know your audience and your message.

·         It is important to know who you want to reach and what you want to tell them. Be specific.  If you are not, then you can create tangents.

Step 2- Make sure it is easy to read or scan.

·         Place important information in headlines, and use bullet points. Doing this will make sure the reader can scan the information. It also helps the reader take away the important parts of your message.

Step3 – Write like a newspaper reporter.

·         Write short sentences.

·         Create short paragraphs.

·         Use a simple reading level.

Step 4- Keep the page simple.

·         Use  one idea per page.

·         Avoid busy pages.

·         A 400-500 word limit for each page works best.

Step 5- Make it easy to navigate

·      Use simple menus and avoid graphical links.

·      Use headlines as transitions.
